Shimano Stradic FL Reel Buying Guide
As there are several sizes for sale in the FL range, it only makes sense that we provide you with the best information possible to assist you in making the correct purchase. As such, we have created a short guide on the sizes for sale in the FL range. Should you need to field us any questions though, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Shimano Stradic 1000 FL – is the smallest in the FL line up reserved for finesse inshore fishing. The 1000 size will enliven recreational and competition bream anglers alike also doing the same for trout, bass and whiting anglers.
If you fish ultra-light within river and lake systems, the Stradic 1000 FL makes an excellent choice, especially when paired to graphite rods 6ft to 7ft 6 inches in length with appraised ratings between 1-4kg.
Shimano Stradic 2500 FL – is a top-selling size. Most anglers purchase a 2500 size to cover a broad range of lake, river and other light fishing styles. The 2500 FL holds a higher capacity of line compared to 1000, and some anglers find it a touch easier to cast. It’s these few reasons why the 2500FL is an inshore anglers top-choice.
For brilliant overall performance, try and match with a graphite rod rated between 3-5Kg and 6-7ft in length.
Shimano Stradic 3000 FL – In size class, the 3000FL is not too different to 2500. However, it holds more or a heavier grade of line. The 3000 is practical for light inshore fish like bream, bass, flathead through to medium class forceful fighters like barra, mangrove jack, cod, yellowbelly and sooty grunter.
Stradic 3000 FL reels run best with 6ft to 7ft 6-inch graphite rods. For lighter fishing approaches, rods that rate around 3-6Kg pair best. For medium-heavier inshore methods, graphite rods with ratings between 4-10Kg are optimal.
Shimano Stradic 4000 FL – This is where reel size gears up a few pegs. We now discuss heavy inshore. The 4000FL is home to tackling powerful freshwater fish like murray cod, saratoga and sooty grunter as it is for saltwater-brackish species like mangrove jack, mulloway, queenfish, golden snapper and barramundi.
The Stradic 4000FL Reel makes an excellent light beach and rock reel. Just right for casting baits and lures for drummer, whiting, trevally, dart, salmon and tailor.
Should you take your boat offshore, the 4000 makes an effective option for fishing shallow reefs and structure with soft plastic lures or light strips of bait for snapper and other reef inhabitants.
Stradic 4000 reels will match well to most graphite rods between 6-9ft in length rated to 10Kg.
Shimano Stradic 5000 FL – The final size for sale in the FL Series is also the largest. When we say largest though, it’s not all it seems; it’s still only medium-size in physical class but packs a punch with its max drag of 11kg.
Like the 4000FL size, the 5000 is capable of all the same sport with an option to raise the bar a little further, if you so desire. Ideal rod suggestions remain the same as the 4000. However, increasing the bar, you can easily fish on specific graphite rods appraised to 15kg.
Benefits
- Micromodule gear II coupled with a silent drive and six bearings deliver a seamless, perfectly meshed crank, for the smoothest retrieve under the toughest of loads.
- The long-stroke spool is noticeably taller than the previous spool. The cast is now far more extended with even greater accuracy.
- X-Protect channels water ingress away from critical parts. The labyrinth system also handles water delivered under pressure, ensuring your reel remains resilient of reel killing water.
- The Hagane body provides strength and rigidity, ensuring all the power channels to the fight.
- The G-free body puts the centre of gravity closer to the rod, enhancing ergonomics, mitigating against fatigue and assisting with longer, more accurate casting.
